Antique RARE 19thC French Porcelain Enameled Gilt Bronze Carcel Oil Gas Lamp. A very rare and unusual French moderator or carcel type gas parlor lamp.
The base is made of beautiful hand painted, gilt and raised enameled porcelain, and has a ornate gilt bronze foot and gilt brass/bronze burner. The burner has a porcelain insert with tiny holes for the gas to be lit and the bronze key/switch to moderate the height of the flame opens and shuts smoothly.Beautiful collectible and rare lamp to add to any antique (oil) lamp collection. Probably made around the late 19th century in France, in a brief timeframe where gas lamps were used, before electric lighting became more prevalent. Total height: about 15 inch / 38 cm.
No chips, cracks or restores on the porcelain, some minor wear to the paint/enamel, some minor wear to the gallery of the brass burner part and some wear to the brass ring around the bronze base. The lamp has not been tested and I strongly recommend to let this get checked by a professional if you intend to use it as a gas lamp.
