An extremely rare 54 piece porcelain set made by La Courtille of France around 1780. Actually they were called Rue de la Fontaine-au-Roi or Locre. It is very rare to find such an old and complete set but it is even rarer to find one in this condition.
The set is hand painted with a design of a ring of black flowers and leaves with gild leaves in between. Also smaller black flowers strewn throughout as well as more gold leaves and a nice gold trim. There are 12 cups and saucers. Each cup is 2.5 inches tall and 2.5 inches in diameter with small differences. The saucers are 1.125 inches tall and 5.125 inches in diameter with small differences.
All cups and saucers are in perfect condition. There is one tall coffee or tea pot with a lid. It has a dolphin handle and a tiger head spout which is unusual. The pot is 11.5 inches tall and 5.5 inches in diameter. It is in great condition with the finial reattached. Then there are 12 dinner plates. They are 9 inches in diameter. All are in perfect condition with one having a star glaze crack underneath that does not go through the top! Next there are two round serving bowls.
They are 1.625 inches tall and 8.5 inches in diameter. Both are in great condition with one having a tiny chip of the foot ring. Then there is one oval shaped serving dish.It is 1.375 inches tall, 10.25 inches wide and 7.125 inches deep. Nice shape and in great condition. Next there are two kite shaped serving dishes. They are 1.5 inches tall, 10.5 inches wide and 8.125 inches deep and in perfect condition. Next there are two shell shaped serving dishes.
They are 1.875 inches tall, 9.625 inches wide and 8.75 inches deep. Both in great condition with one having a faint hairline to the rim. Next there are two square serving dishes.
They are 1.5 inches tall and 8 inches on each side. Both in great condition with light stacking wear to the raised corner decoration. Now come neat dished you rarely ever see. One is a double jam pot I assume. The pots are attached to the tray but each pot does come with a lid that is removable.
It is 10.5 inches wide, 6.375 inches deep and 5.5 inches tall. The piece is in great condition with one finial reattached. The lids fit a bit oddly but they do belong. Next is a small lidded tureen with attached under plate. It is 11.5 inches wide, 6 inches deep and 6.25 inches tall. In great condition with a long hairline in the center where the dish attaches to the plate. It does not go to either rim and thus is no big deal. And lastly a giant footed punch bowl (I think). It is 5.5 inches tall and 10.625 inches in diameter. In good condition with a star crack to one side with one line going to the rim. It is very tight and still rings well. Almost all pieces are marked with one form or another of the crossed torches type mark. Some look very much like the more famous mark of that top German maker while others more like an A. Some pieces are unmarked but that is quite normal. There are also quite a few incised marks of different letters and or numbers. This set is as complete as they come and in great condition. Almost no wear to any gold trim which is very rare for these type of dishes. Must have been an important set and very treasured throughout the last 200 plus years. The set displays superbly together and it is rare to find such a complete set from such an early date.
I think I found a two extra plates a little later that matched perfectly so I'll add them to the set as well. 18th century France Vieux de Paris Old If you like my goodies have a look at my other auctions for a lot more top maker pieces like KPM, Sevres and so on.
