A superb plate made by Lille in about 1785. The factory was founded in 1784 by Leperre-Durot which was protected by the Dauphin (hence the red dolphin mark with a crown on its head). The factory closed around 1817 after some changes of ownership over its short existence.
Most pieces one finds are painted with flowers so I was excited to find this one here which has a superb hand painted scene in the center of a bird sitting on a pole with another one flying above with some berries in its beak. Both are really colorful parrot / bird of paradise sort of birds. A nice little landscape around them and a gold trim to the nicely shaped edge. The plate is in superb condition with some very minor wear to the very edge and some manufacturing flaws expected on these early pieces. The plate is marked with the red stenciled dolphin with a crown mark though it isn't the clearest example - one can still make it out in the picture. It is 1.125 inches tall and 9.375 inches in diameter.
