Antique 18thC French Domino Paper Hand Blocked Birds, Floral, Bows17L X 6W
MEASUREMENTS: 17"L X 6"W. Hand blocked and hand stenciled Domino papers were the first wallpapers and produced in France. By the guild Dominotiers, during the 18th century. The design was produced by ancient printing methods. The original uses were for lining trunks, chest of drawers, hat boxes and for book. They were printed by wood blocks with color accents either hand painted or hand stenciled. This one is exceptionally early, circa 1740, hand blocked and hand painted.
This is a particularly romantic. Motif with two love birds and two cupids' arrows going through center rose design.
